A Dear "Friend" - And Her Books That You Should Check Out!

I have been reviewing books for a while now for Nurture Your Book Virtual Tourz...and then came a request from one of the coordinators to feature her books here on the blog and I just jumped at the opportunity - she is an amazing "friend" (meaning that she and I are friends virtually) and I am delighted at the chance to help promote her books.  You will want to check them out, that's for sure!

Author Interview:

What book is on your nightstand now?

Well I keep my Kindle Fire on my nightstand so there are hundreds of books on there...hehe. However, in terms of actual books, I currently have Violet Midnight by Allie Burke on my nightstand.

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

I had so many books around me when I was a child it would be impossible to pick just one favorite! If I had to pick a book that I loved having read to me when I was younger it would be Mountains, Meadows and Moonbeams by Mary Summer Rain.

Once I got a little older and was reading on my own, I loved reading The Wednesday Witch by Ruth Chew and also The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids series by Debbie Dadey and Marcia T. Jones.

What are your top five authors?

Tough question! Perhaps my favorite overall author would be Jean M. Auel. I LOVE her Earth’s Children series.

Laurell K. Hamilton is another favorite of mine. I have almost all of the books in her Anita Blake series and also her Merry Gentry series. If you haven’t read her work, you are missing out.

I love Kim Harrison’s work as well. The Hollows series is amazing! I hope to get caught up in the series soon!

L.J. Smith is an amazing writer. I have a lot of her books.

Tonia Brown is a favorite of mine. All of her stories are told with such beautiful imagery that it is easy to get lost in the story. She also tends to write from a male perspective which in my opinion is hard for female authors to pull off effectively.

What books have you faked reading?

If I haven’t read a book I won’t say I have. Although there are books that I may have started but never finished that will get thrown into the ‘I’ve Read’ category.

What books are you an evangelist for?

Any books by the favorite authors I mentioned would be at the top of my list to recommend. I am always suggesting to readers that they should pick up books from Tonia Brown, Lori Titus and more! I just discovered author Nely Cab and her book Creatura  as well.

What books have you bought for the cover?

It has been a long time since I’ve been to a book store and picked a book just because of the great cover. That is one thing I miss now that I have an eReader and do all of my book shopping online. It just isn’t the same seeing a book cover online. However, I want to buy Firelight by Sophie Jordan because I love that cover!

What books have changed your life?

There again I’d have to mention Jean M. Auel and her Earth Children’s series. I’ve read the series multiple times and I can remember sitting in Chemistry class and having her book tucked into my Chemistry book reading instead of paying attention to the teacher. I practically grew up on her series and I am glad that I discovered the series and was able to read it because it helped inspire my love of reading and writing.

Can you tell us about the Twisted Fairy Tales Volume II Anthology?

TFT V2 is a collection of 19 short stories from various authors. These short stories take classic fairy tales and show us the other side. My story, ‘The Tower’, takes a darker look at the life of Rapunzel.

Do you have any other work that is published?

I have a short story entitled ‘Blind Justice’ that will be appearing in the upcoming Wicked Bag of Suspense Tales from Wicked East Press. My story follows a blind criminal profiler who is trying to help catch a serial killer.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Read. Read. Read. Write. Write. Write.

If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have time to write.

What are you currently working on?

I currently have two books started and my focus right now is getting the first one finished and published this year. Both books are part of my Juniper Grove series and are stand-alone so they can be read in any order.

The first takes a look at Alayna, a young woman who lost everything after a tragic accident and moves to Juniper Grove to start over. She unknowingly catches the eye of a vampire who has been terrorizing the town and her new neighbor Jayden will do whatever it takes to protect her – even if it means revealing secrets of his own.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
