Romancing the Soul by Dorothy Thompson: Review & Blog Tour

I can't tell you how much I have looked forward to featuring this author...while working with her over the last year doing various book tours through Pump Up Your Book, I have gotten to "know" her virtually but I feel like I know her personally so that makes this opportunity even more special for me!

 About the Book:

Snow White and Prince Charming.  Romeo and Juliet.  Beauty and the Beast.  Harry and Sally.  These are all names that come to mind when one thinks of the term “soul mates,” but what does it actually mean?  More importantly, how do we find our soul mates and would we know what to look for? Romancing the Soul – True Stories of Soul Mates from Around the World and Beyond brings together sixty beautiful and compelling stories from people all over the world who have found their soul mates through real-life miracles and chance encounters.  From karmic soul mates to twin souls, these powerful and heartwarming stories will not only mystify you, they’ll make a believer out of you.  Relationship expert Dorothy Thompson has compiled sixty stories into three sections – karmic, companion and twin souls – so that you can know without a doubt who your own soul mates are with no guessing. More than sixty authors have banded together to tell their true soul mate experiences – some of which will surprise you – in the hope this will be a reference for all those who are searching, whether it be for relationships, friendships or personal gratification.  A stepping stone toward understanding the soul mate experience, this is the book for the soul mates of the New Age and will have a profound effect on your search for your own soul mate.

Book Excerpt:

I have been asked many questions about the soul mate experience. For instance, I ran into a friend I hadn’t seen for thirty years. The instant I saw Sharon, there was a connection. We reminisced about high school days and couldn’t stop talking. It was as if that thirty-year span had dissolved into oblivion. We could almost read each others thoughts.

She emailed me the other day and asked about my soul mate project. She believed her ex-husband was her soul mate; yet she despised him for his lies and deceit. I told her perhaps she and her ex-husband were soul mates, but their mortal experiences here on earth clouded their spiritual connection. I told her that her ex-husband could have very possibly been her soul mate if she were to connect with him on a spiritual level.

Perhaps if my soul mate and I had lived together, had kids together, had mortgages together, things wouldn’t have turned out quite so rosy. Some soul mates meet in this life for a specific purpose and nothing more. Did I meet my twin soul? I don’t know for sure, but I certainly did meet some form of soul mate who made a lasting impression on me.

All this said, the big question is still “Do soul mates really exist?” You will find the answer by the time you have finished the true stories included in this book, and the answer will be a resounding yes.

I have compiled more than sixty true stories and poems from people around the world showing that soul mates do indeed exist. The stories are compelling, often heartbreaking. They will touch your heart as well as your mind. You may even recognize some of the names here because they are creative people whose work you may have enjoyed. I would like to take the time now to personally thank each and every one of my contributors for opening their hearts and sharing their stories. For some, it was very hard to expose their souls to the world, and they only agreed after much coaxing. Later, they wrote and thanked me for allowing them this opportunity to “let it all out.” I have divided the stories into three categories, Twin Flames, Karmic Soul Mates and Companion Soul Mates, for a reason. It is to give you a better understanding of the different kinds of soul mate relationships by using the stories as examples.  Perhaps this will help you understand who your soul mate is and why they have come into your life.

Keep in mind that all soul mates are with us for a purpose, and no one type is more important than another; you need all of them to fulfill your spiritual purpose.

So, let us begin our magical journey through the lives of sixty people from all walks of life. Some are well-known authors, some are painters, poets and actors. Some are ordinary people leading ordinary lives just like you and me.

Read their stories. Listen to their words. They are messages to you. Look beyond your mortal existence and find your spiritual self in these stories. Read in between the lines. The soul mate phenomenon is ALIVE AND WELL.

My Thoughts:

I have said many times here on the blog how much I enjoy a good romance novel every now and then and this really did become that book for me this month!  But interestingly enough, this book was anything but your typical romance novel and it ended up being a real journey for my mind which was surprising, but welcome.

I like things that are sentimental, thought-provoking, emotional, and out of the norm and this book was it for me.  The main question here is, are soul-mates real?  I went into reading this book thinking that the answer is yes...and this book reaffirmed that for me.  Sixty authors share their experience with soul-mates in a way that is not overly mushy, not completely unrealistic, but REAL.

I love compilations of works from different authors so this was a real treat for me.  I also enjoyed that each author takes the reader on a journey and there are a lot of surprising twists and turns in each story.  Each story is unique, each different, but each backing up the idea that soul-mates are real, are out there, and can be found.  For me, someone who is happily married to someone I believe to be my soul-mate this was a treasure.  Anyone looking for love, or searching for something that they are unsure of should read this book.

To sum it up, this is an inspiring read out of the ordinary.  Delightful, thought-provoking, yet engaging this book would be a great gift to anyone who wants to think about love and soul-mates on a whole new level.

  1. Oh Lindsay, thank you so much for your wonderful review! This book was published back in 2004 and I decided to tour it this month to gain interest in the soul mate relationship before my next book, The Soul Mate Triangle: Unlocking the Mysteries of the Soul Mate Relationship, comes out sometime next year. And I wanted to wear the other shoe to see what all the fun was all about! What I have found is that setting up authors' tours and doing your own at the same time is hard, very hard, so maybe when my next book comes out, I'll cut tours down a bit that month. I do want to say that you have given me such a smile this morning and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!
