Whew, big week for the blog, and big week in my mailbox. In My Mailbox is hosted by Kristi, The Story Siren, and is a chance for bloggers to share what great books they received throughout the week. I am going to do 2 weeks worth since I didn't get to post last week.

Here goes:

I won this awesome audiobook from The Bookery - YAY!

Murder in Fernandina is a book I picked up at a small bookstore when I was vacationing in Florida - I met one of the authors of the book and had her sign a copy for me. This is one in a series, so if it's good the others are on order! Murder mystery set in Fernandina Beach, Florida.

The Year of Wonders
When an infected bolt of cloth carries plague from London to an isolated village, a housemaid named Anna Frith emerges as an unlikely heroine and healer. Through Anna's eyes we follow the story of the fateful year of 1666, as she and her fellow villagers confront the spread of disease and superstition. As death reaches into every household and villagers turn from prayers to murderous witch-hunting, Anna must find the strength to confront the disintegration of her community and the lure of illicit love. As she struggles to survive and grow, a year of catastrophe becomes instead annus mirabilis, a "year of wonders."

I am so excited to read The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate - I have been eyeing this one on Goodreads and am planning on reading it for my Awards Winning Books Challenge. And is that cover not amazing?

Okay, no idea why this picture won't turn, but oh well...some things just aren't worth fighting! These two titles were wins from Goodreads - I am interested in reading them both, but particularly Inside Out since it is a young adult title.

What young adult book blogger hasn't been stoked about this book? I finally got my hands on a copy :)

And this one too...love this cover, and can't wait to read this book!

Another win from Goodreads - not sure that I would have picked this one up on my own, but I am hoping to entice my hubby into picking it up too!

I am obsessed with all things "pirate" - just ask my students who are forced to see a huge pirate and pirate ship on my classroom wall - and I drink out of a pirate coffee mug everyday. I love books like this to leave sitting around to pick up if you just want to read something quick. Plus it gives me more ideas for pirate jargon, which I love using with my husband and kids!

This is another local book that I was able to snag when on vacation - it is a historical mystery, which is awesome. Can't wait to read this one! And bonus was they were offering autographed copies!

The two were a spontaneous purchase, but a good one - again, at a local bookstore in Florida, but they are historical fiction so I couldn't go wrong throwing them in.

This book caught my eye immediately, but I was so taken with the synopsis that I had no choice but to get it...check it out (below the picture):

One Thousand White Women is the story of Mary Dodd and a colorful assembly of pioneer women who, under the auspices of the U.S. government, travel to the western prairies in 1875 to intermarry among the Cheyenne Indians. The covert and controversial "Brides for Indians" program, launched by the administration of Ulysses S. Grant, is intended to help assimilate the Indians into the white man's world. Toward that end May and her friends embark upon the adventure of their lifetime. Jim Fergus has so vividly depicted the American West that it is as if these diaries are a capsule in time.

Miss World was another win from Goodreads, but I was stoked to open it and find the postcard AND a note from the author on nothing less than pirate stationary - love her already!

I would love to hear if anyone else got anything this week :)

  3. What a great set of books. I have been meaning to read The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate for a while. I've heard so many good things about it.

I enjoyed Inside Out... not nearly as much as I enjoyed Across the Universe (similar premise, with more romance) but it was really enjoyable.
